Scoop Image Feedback: Corruption in Russia

Corruption in Russia

Date: 21 January, 2001.

Dear Sir/Madam:

As you, probably, know, the Russian government is totally corrupt now. It causes starvation among the Russian people. The Russian pensioners and war heroes do not receive any money from the government. Many of them are forced to sell their own blood to buy enough food to keep alive. Many people are dying because they can not find a job and feed themselves.

My grandson Mikhail Mikhaylin is an invalid since many years because of the accident. During many years he had montly been receiving a pension from the government. Now the Russian corrupt government does not wish to pay any money for invalids. They prefer to put this money to their own pockets, therefore they do all the possible in order to stop paying pensions for invalids anymore.

11 December, 2001, my grandson was invited for a special commission. It was very difficult for Mikhail to come to the commission, because a big part of his body is paralyzed. One member of the commission asked my grandson to stand up and sit down 200 times. It wasn't possible and my grandson fell down to the dirty floor. After that the member of the commission said that since my grandson will not be able to strangle the occupants of the Afganistan, he is not needed for the government and we stop to pay any pension for him anymore.

My grandson has understood that there is no any way for him to survive, therefore he asked me to bring him to the central cemetery of our city. My grandson said me that it will help me to economize money for transporting his dead body to the cemetery if he will die at home. I have brought my grandson to the cemetery where he is now waiting for death.

It is so sad to see too much young and oldest people who are siting on tombs in expectancy of death, because they are experiencing analogous situations. At the same time our corrupt government organizes luxury dinners and buy very expensive cars and villas.

During the last years I and my wife have been selling our own blood to buy some food and the necessary medications. Now it is clear that we are all doomed to the starvation and death.

It is so sad that we will not be able to live till the time when the original democraty comes to Russia.

Sincerely yours,

Lev Mazin, Pensioner, Kaluga city, Russian Federation.
