Prada sneaks in a win ahead of all others

Prada sneaks in a win ahead of all others

Prada beat Sweden's Victory Challenge in Race 6 in the only Louis Vuitton Cup race to conclude on a fickle Hauraki Gulf this afternoon.

Prada won by 2 minutes 35s, beating not only Victory Challenge but the race organiser’s clock. Prada slipped over the finish line 5 minutes before the race’s cut-off time rule came into force.

All other races were abandoned due to light and changeable wind.

An anticipated clash between American heavyweights OneWorld and Oracle was cancelled when both yachts failed to make the second mark within the 45 minute time allocation.

Team Dennis Conner and Le Defi Areva were also sent back to the viaduct basin.

Mascalzone Latino was ahead of GBR Challenge but this race was also canned.

The races will be rescheduled for the end of round robin one.

Tomorrow’s weather is forecast to be more of the same. Flat seas, no significant wind, blue cloudless skies: perfect boating weather, except that is for sailors.

Tomorrow's scheduled races are however: OneWorld vs. Victory Challenge, GBR Challenge vs. Prada, Alinghi vs. Team Dennis Conner, and Oracle vs. Le Defi Areva.
