Another Hercules Leaves For Cyclone-Damaged Niue

Another Hercules Takes Off For Cyclone-Damaged Niue

The Royal New Zealand Air Force assigned a second Hercules aircraft to relief operations in Niue this morning – carrying about 30 passengers assigned to help restore essential services on the island.

The RNZRAF said those aboard included linesmen, electricians, a carpenter, a plumber and a doctor.

Communications with the island remains difficult after Cyclone Heta destroyed the building where Niue’s satellite dish was stored. The Hercules C130 is also transporting telecommunications equipment and electrical generators to the island. Food was also stowed. Niuean MPs were also on board.

The aircraft is expected to arrive at 1:50pm today.
