Peters & Clark Agree On NZ First's Coalition Policy

- Prime Minister Helen Clark and New Zealand First Leader Winston Peters met this afternoon. The two leaders confirmed their understanding of Mr Peters’ Rotorua speech on 7th September 2005, in which he set out the position New Zealand First would take to ensure stable government for the next term of Parliament. Rod Donald Issues Invitation To Business Leaders

- The Green Party is moving swiftly to allay fears in the business community about the role the Greens could play in the next government. Co-Leaders Rod Donald and Jeanette Fitzsimons are inviting business leaders to a briefing at Parliament next week on Green Party policies, particularly energy, transport, trade and the economy. "We are concerned that some business leaders have been making negative statements about the contribution the Greens would make in the next Government without the benefit of meeting with us to discuss our policies," Mr Donald says. Scoop Report: Will Dunne Be Forced To Eat Humble Pie?

- Kevin List writes: Last evening United Future leader Peter Dunne took a leaf out of his good friend National leader Don Brash's campaigning book and explained on TVNZ's Close Up at Seven that the Green Party's worldview was not that of the 'mainstream'. What exactly Mr Dunne considers mainstream remains a mystery. In the past Mr Dunne has worked with New Zealand's ethnic communities who supported his bid for Parliament in 1999. Mr Dunne has also keenly lobbied on behalf of that dwindling group of New Zealanders who enjoy tobacco. See... Kevin List: What's Dunne Got Against The Greens? [1]

Independent Investigator To Examine Phillip Field's Role In Alleged Visa-Scam

- Prime Minister Helen Clark said today that senior members of cabinet have met with Hon Taito Phillip Field about allegations which have been raised in the news media. "Mr Field has asked that these allegations be looked at independently. I am moving to have an independent person appointed to look at the allegations and report back to me as soon as possible," Helen Clark said. See... Statement on Hon Taito Phillip Field [1]

Ahmed Zaoui To Deliver Lecture On Islam Today

- Ahmed Zaoui has become a familiar name to many New Zealanders. He hit media headlines for being the first person in this country to be detained without charge for almost two years. In Algeria, Zaoui was an Imam (priest) and an academic who specialized in Comparative Religious Studies. Currently, he is residing on bail with the Dominican Friars. This has afforded him the opportunity to continue his work, which focuses on how inter-faith communications can be used as a vehicle to promote justice and human rights. See... An American Perspective On Democracy In Godzone & Germany

    - Over the weekend, two of the core industrialized nations voted in national elections, and they were joined by New Zealand, which, if it is not a major economic player, is still among the world's most advanced economies. The lens of left and right does not give a clear or accurate picture of what was, in fact, decided. Which was very little. See... Stirling Newberry: What's Left? [1]

Cindy Sheehan Weighs In On The Hurricane Debate

    - What Bush's Katrina shows once again is that my son died for nothing. If you listen to Bush - and fewer and fewer are, thank goodness - we are in Iraq in part due to 9/11. All our president has been talking about has been protecting this country since 9/11. That's why people voted for him in the last election.
