The big news of last week was of course the foiled plot to blow up 12 transatlantic airlines, now, Muslim leaders in New Zealand are warning women wearing the hajib or burqah not to go out alone in case they become targets for retaliation which is alarming in itself. So how do these worldwide events affect NZ Muslims? We will be speaking to Javed Khan President of the NZ Islamic Federation at 12.20.

And the big world news over the weekend was that the UN seems to have finally brokered a ceasefire in Lebanon. Israeli and Lebanese leaders have agreed a ceasefire will take effect today to end hostilities, at least for now. However fighting raged on yesterday as Israeli forces met fierce resistance from Hezbollah guerrillas. So what next for this embattled part of the world? Politics Professor Bill Harris will be on the wire at 12.40pm.

1.00 Di Landy - Wellington Downtown Community Ministry

Over the weekend a forum called Poverty in Prosperity was held in Hamilton which sought to address the issues that surround poverty in this country. One of the speakers was Di Landy - A Wellington social worker – she says there is a desperate need in New Zealand to provide wet houses for people who are too far gone in drink for conventional housing but need a roof over their heads and a bed. Di will be on the show to talk about the concept of a wet house and some of the realities of homelessness and alcoholism at 1pm

Tomorrow is the 61st anniversary of VJ Day, which in case you have just arrived on planet earth is Victory over Japan Day which marked the end of World War 2. In my mind World War 2 is often thought about in terms of what happened in Europe, but it was arguably a turning point for this country in its role as a pacific nation. it also heralded a new era in international relations. World War II veteran Harry Bioletti will be on the wire at 1.20pm.
