Scoop Feedback: Trotter Does NOT Rise To PM's Call!
Scoop note: This email was received by Scoop from political pundit and widely published columnist Chris Trotter in response to audio posted on Scoop recently. The audio was a replay of Scoop Co-editor Selwyn Manning's weekly radio show with BFM's Simon Pound. In the radio interview Mr Pound seemed under the mis-apprehension that the recent Tim Donoghue story regarding caucus troubles in National and Dr Brash's private life was in some way connected to Mr Trotter.
Just a short note to set straight a matter which was raised in the Selwyn Manning/Simon Pound Exchange on Dr Brash's wayward political strategy.
The article which broke the news of Brash's marital difficulties was penned by The Independent Financial Review's parliamentary correspondent, Tim Donoghue - NOT Chris Trotter - as Mr Pound declared.
What's more, I am not prone to "rising to the call" of this or any other Prime Minister (as anyone enjoying even the slightest familiarity with New Zealand politics and/or the New Zealand news media could have told Mr Pound).
In the spirit of friendly professional admonition, I would, therefore, recommend that Mr Pound desist from offering supercilious asides to your political analysts until he is in possession of at least some of the facts.
Cheers,
Chris Trotter.
