Conroy: "House of Death" Informant Fingers Mexican, U.S. Governments

Bill Conroy's investigation into the "House of Death" Ciudad Juárez murder case has made some major breakthroughs recently in the pages of the Narcosphere. Early this week, Conroy published an email interview he conducted with former Mexican cop Guillermo Ramirez Peyro - known throughout this two-year series of stories as "Lalo" - who worked as an informant for the U.S. government inside the Vicente Carrillo Fuentes drug cartel. Documents have shown that Ramirez had some degree of participation in twelve murders at a residential home in the Mexican border city, and that his U.S. handlers were aware of this but encouraged him to continue his work.

After helping U.S. authorities with their case against a mid-level Juárez drug trafficker, Ramirez is currently being threatened with deportation back to Mexico, where he would likely face retaliation or death now that his role as a government informant is clear. On Thursday, Conroy obtained and published sections of a transcript of Ramirez' court testimony, which, he writes, "can only be described as startling in parts and puzzling on other fronts." He claims that there is cooperation with drug traffickers at all levels of the Mexican government, from the office of President Fox to high officials of the Mexican armed forces.

From the transcript:

Goodwin: What will, what will happen to you if you are returned to, to Mexico?

Ramirez Peyro: Well, they, they will kill me or they will torture me and then will kill me.

Goodwin: Who will?

Ramriez Peyro: Yeah, the police, the cartel, the government, it's all the same people.

Conroy provides his usual astute commentary on all of these developments, and what they mean with relation to allegations that a cover-up of the House of Death murders occurred within the Justice and Homeland Security departments of the U.S. government.
