Politics:
Dissemination Of Parliamentary Bull Threatened
Suffering from the new fun free environment
that Auditor General Kevin Brady has ushered in will be the
good citizens of National MP Lockwood Smith's Rodney
electorate. Photos of Dr Smith surrounded by his fellow
Orewa Surf lifesavers were splashed across NZ's newspapers
earlier this week after Finance Minister Michael Cullen
claimed a Christmas calendar issued by Dr Smith broke the
rules under Mr Brady's new guidelines. Dr Smith's calendar
showed more than just the good lads of the Orewa surf life
saving club though. See... Nat

Politics: Don Brash's Tea Maker/Chair Arranger Becomes
Embroiled In AG Fall-Out
Don Brash's credibility and judgement are yet again in doubt after his admission today that he used his Parliamentary Leader's Budget to pay for electioneering, Labour Strategist Pete Hodgson said. Dr Brash's today admitted on Radio Live that he did in fact pay campaign operative Bryan Sinclair with taxpayers' money. Prior to the election National's Deputy Leader Gerry Brownlee explained that Mr Sinclair organised cups of tea and arranged chairs in halls. Mr Sinclair is currently partners in Australian PR firm Sinclair Thomas - the firm specialises in politics. See... Brash's predictable fall from moral high ground [1]

Clarkson Vs Mallard: Would a 'Good Joker' Tell Tales Or
Sort It Out Man To Man
Tauranga MP Bob Clarkson has laid a privileges complaint with the Speaker against senior Government Minister Trevor Mallard after an alleged assault in Parliament on Thursday. "He crossed onto National's side of the Chamber, stood behind my seat, and whack," says Mr Clarkson. "If I'd done this to a Labour MP they'd have me before Privileges at 90 miles an hour." See... Clarkson lays complaint with Speaker [1]

Legislation:
Select Committee Recommends Raising Drinking Age; Consent,
Running For Parliament Ages To Remain
The
recommendation... is disappointing, Green Party Alcohol and
Drug Spokesperson Metiria Turei says. The select committee
has recommended that two private members bills be passed,
one restricting alcohol advertising... and the other raising
the legal purchase age to 20, but allowing 18 and
19-year-olds to work or perform in restricted areas and to
drink on on-license premises with their former guardians or
legal spouses over 20. See... Proposed
drinking age changes ludicrous [1]
