Scoop
Report: DC. Impressions From Inside The Power
House
Scoop's Rosalea Barker writes: The
buildings are all much smaller than they seem to be on the
telly. The scale of the West Wing, at least, is really no
bigger than that of a family home. The annex that links the
White House to the West Wing contains the indoor swimming
pool where JFK allegedly had his trysts with Marilyn Monroe.
The pool has been covered over since those days, and the
annex is now used as a break room for the media encampment
that is permanently lined up along the driveway to the west
wing. See... Stateside:

Politics: McCully Tackles Auckland Lab Fiasco and
Terrorism -
There are important lessons to be found in the judgment delivered by High Court Justice Raynor Asher this week in the case involving the three district health boards for the Auckland region. A $560 million contract to supply diagnostic laboratory services was found ultra vires and cancelled. And the Minister could offer no reassurance to 1.5 million Aucklanders that suitable laboratory services will be in place when the current contract expires. Welfare: Getting A Benefit Could Be Harder Than
Getting A Job -
“Fundamental changes are being made
to the purpose and principles of the Social Security Act and
most people don’t even know it”, said sociologist Dr
Louise Humpage, speaking at the Where to for Welfare?
conference held on 21 March which discussed recent and
proposed welfare reforms in New Zealand. Along with other
members of the University of Auckland’s Public Policy.
