Politics:
Tau & Tamihere National's New Maori Dream Team?
This week current affairs show Eye To Eye looks at three terms of a Labour government. Former Labour Cabinet Minister John Tamihere, who will be a panellist on the show, says that Labour has run out of puff. McCully.co.nz: National MP Questions If Giving To
'Poverty Elimination' Is Charitable
A substantial increase in overseas aid was supposed to have been one of the key announcements in last week’s Budget. A special slot was identified in one of Foreign Minister Winston Peters’ increasingly brief visits to New Zealand to make a formal announcement. The usual congratulatory press releases were choreographed in advance with the grateful aid recipients. And no-one noticed. More >>
Conservation: Sea Lion Collateral
Damage Down In Battle For Squid
An estimated fifty-six
New Zealand sea lions have been killed by the southern squid
trawl fishery this season. Forest & Bird Conservation
Advocate Kirstie Knowles says the number of sea lions killed
this season, which has just ended, is lower than the 93
which is the maximum number the fishery is permitted to
kill, but is still far too high. Forest & Bird is relieved
the number of sea lions killed is down on last year. Squid
fishery kills 56 endangered sea lions
