The Wednesday Wire Hosted By Paul Deady 27/02/08

1220 – Trade deal with China, Trade Minister Phil Goff

I'll start the show today with an interview I did this morning with Trade Minister Phil Goff. He spoke to me about NZ's impending trade deal with China – due to be signed, sealed and delivered this April. It's their first with a developed nation so I asked him if there might be any guinea pig factor involved We also talked about what it means for our agricultural and textile industries, not to mention theirs, the extent to which Human Rights have been thrown in the mix, and why we might be seeing an influx of Chinese Chefs later this year.

1240 – Antidepressants, Judi Clements, CEO Mental Health Foundation of NZ

At twenty to one I'll be speaking with (above) about the very misleading article which occupied pride of place on this morning's Herald front page. Apparently anti-depressants don't work at all. Huh, weird, and I think a few people might beg to differ, including Judi. We'll talk about what the study actually says, and the possible ill-effects of hyped up reporting.

1320 – Counterclockwise

Selwyn Manning from the ace team at scoop joins us today at one twenty for counterclockwise. Today we'll be having a look at the dwindling political fortunes of the Labour Party, which Selwyn has analysed oh so thoroughly in an excellent article on his website. Also, Key hits the heartland while Clarke buggers off to see Kevin 07 in oz. A wise move?

1340 – Critical Mass Bike rally

And rounding out the show today we commemorate bike week and national go-by-bike day with an in-studio chat with Aaryn Barlow from a group called Critical Mass. They're organizing a wheeled rally this Friday around the CBD – aiming to reclaim the streets from those four wheeled monsters. Here here!

Aucklanders can tune in at 95 on the FM dial.
