Obama's Silence On Gaza Atrocities Is Deafening

Obama's Silence On Gaza Atrocities Is Deafening

By Allen L Roland

President Elect Obama's silence on the ongoing criminal atrocities of Gazans by Israel is a deafening affirmation of the Bush policy of preemptive criminal attack and force to achieve limited political capital. As such, Israel's obvious moral decay is a reflection of our own. Obama must be an honest broker and peacemaker in the middle east or risk further deterioration : Allen L Roland

In the last few days , US-supplied Israeli F-16 warplanes and Apache helicopters dropped over 100 bombs on dozens of locations in the Israeli-occupied Gaza Strip with at least 300 dead (including at least 20 children and 9 women) and about 700 wounded persons (including at least 130 children and 28 women) .

The Gaza health system is in a state of collapse and cannot provide an adequate response to the growing needs. The closure imposed by Israel on all Gaza crossings, including the total closure of Ere Crossing since last Friday, prevents the evacuation of patients and wounded persons and deepens the human tragedy occurring in the Gaza Strip.

This is an international scandal, if not a crime against humanity, and we must not remain neutral in this ongoing moral crisis.

Do remember that Palestine is an illegally occupied country, as is Iraq, and that Israel is exercising the same atrocities on Palestinians that we have inflicted for years on the innocent civilians of Iraq.

Picture a million palestinian refugees trapped within the illegal concentration camp that Palestine has become and being slowly starved and humiliated every day by the Israelis ~ like The United States is doing in illegally occupied Iraq and the Germans did with the Jews in Poland during WW II.

One of the Nazi's favorite strategies was to wall Jews in Ghettos, depriving them of food, livelihood and access to medical care in an attempt to degrade them.

The Israeli war party uses the same tactic in Palestine ~ and the world, and in particular, the United States continues to ignore this blatant human rights issue.

Here is a link to a number of heartrending pictures of the Gaza atrocities which include countless women and children.

CLG News reported yesterday that Obama's silence on Israeli airstrikes disappoints many " President–elect Barack Obama blew the first opportunity that had come his way to show that unlike his predecessors, he was going to adopt a more even-handed approach to the Palestine question by choosing to keep quiet after savage Israeli airstrikes across Gaza."

As Dan Lieberman writes yesterday in Atheo News ~ " Are world leaders totally ignorant of the events leading to the massive destruction of Palestinian life? Are they unaware of Israel’s provocations and shrewd manipulation of the facts which allowed them to seem innocent and carry out a diabolical plan to destroy the Palestinians? The facts are these : For two years Israel has illegally blockaded Gaza. The densest area of the world, which contains 1.5 million people, has received less than a quarter of the volume of imported supplies they received in December 2005 and has not been permitted to export many goods. A totally paralyzed economy has tried to exist with reduced fuel supplies, electrical outages and a lack of spare parts, all of which has caused hunger and severe psychological damage. Include impacts on sewage treatment, waste collection, water supplies and medical facilities ... Lebanon's Prime Minister Fuad Siniora, considered a US ally in Beirut, described the Israeli attacks as a "criminal operation" and "new massacres to be added to its full record of massacres."

This ongoing moral injustice by Israel towards Palestine is the primary reason for Arab hatred toward both the United States and Israel and continually feeds ongoing acts of terrorism toward both states. Obama must be an honest broker and peacemaker in the middle east or risk further deterioration.

I join J Street (a new progressive lobby for peace and security for Israel and the Middle East) in calling for an immediate ceasefire to end all military operations, stop the rockets aimed at Israel and lifts the blockade of Gaza. I hope you'll join me and please forward widely.

Dunne Speaks: Can ACT's Dream Run Continue?

By most reckonings the ACT Party has had a very successful political year. Not only has its expanded Parliamentary team settled in well to its work, without controversy or scandal, but its leader has gained in community respect, and the party’s support, at least according to the public opinion polls, has increased sharply... Binoy Kampmark: Foreseeable Risk: Omicron Makes Its Viral Debut
It has been written about more times than any care to remember. Pliny the Elder, that old cheek, told us that Africa always tended to bring forth something new: Semper aliquid novi Africam adferre. The suggestion was directed to hybrid animals, but in the weird pandemic wonderland that is COVID-19, all continents now find themselves bringing forth their types, making their contributions. It just so happens that it’s southern Africa’s turn... More>>
