The Solari Report - December 1, 2011

"I have spent nearly a lifetime trying to find out "what happened?" - that could account for the staggering agony and deprivation on this planet. I set out on a journey seeking answers to questions like "is it even possible for humans to thrive?"

Solari Report

This Thursday evening on The Solari Report (6pm PT/9pm ET) I will be speaking with Foster Gamble, the creator, author and narrator of the new documentary Thrive.

I first met Foster and his wife Kimberly, who directed the film, in 2006 when they began filming. I have had the opportunity to visit with them and stay in touch as their journey progressed. As I described in my review of Thrive, Foster's and Kimberly's leadership and courage in contributing to a global conversation in this real, positive manner are a source of inspiration to me.

I want you to meet Foster and have the opportunity to pose questions for me to ask him - so post them here on the private subscriber space before the call or in the webinar software if you listen live. Foster will inspire and energize you. He is a man who brings hope and makes positive things happen wherever he goes.

I will be speaking with you from Zurich. I will start with Money & Markets and Ask Catherine with a focus on what I have learned about the European debt negotiations and economy while in Switzerland.

In Let's Go to the Movies, of course, our video is Thrive. If you have not seen it, you are in for a real treat! You can order a DVD or stream it live here. We encourage you to gather a group to watch it - one of the best parts is the discussion that ensues!

More at the blog.

Listen live on Thursday evening by phone, Skype, or at the webcast page online, or listen at your convenience by downloading the MP3 after it is posted on Friday. If you would like to learn more about The Solari Report and subscribe, click here.

Special Solari Report: Crowdfunding Bill

On November 3, 2011, the House of Representatives passed the Entrepreneur Access to Capital Act (H.R. 2930). This law is intended to facilitate "crowd-funding" for financing small business entrepreneurship. Wikipedia describes crowd funding as "the collective cooperation, attention and trust by people who network and pool their money and other resources together, usually via the Internet, to support efforts initiated by other people or organizations". Sponsor of the bill Congressman Patrick McHenry (R. NC) explains crowdfunding on his website as: "The basic idea is to raise money through relatively small contributions from a large number of people - combining the best of microfinance and crowdsourcing."...

The Economist on the Euro: Is this the end?

Unless Germany and the ECB move quickly, the single currency's collapse is looming. EVEN as the euro zone hurtles towards a crash, most people are assuming that, in the end, European leaders will do whatever it takes to save the single currency. That is because the consequences of the euro's destruction are so catastrophic that no sensible policymaker could stand by and let it happen. A euro break-up would cause a global bust worse even than the one in 2008-09. The world's most financially integrated region would be ripped apart by defaults, bank failures and the imposition of capital controls...
