Education And The Courts

Government is likely to interrupt the Budget debate this afternoon to make progress on education and court process law reform.

After Question Time MPs are scheduled to continue the set piece debate on the Appropriation (2013/14 Estimates) Bill with 6 hours and 23 minutes remaining.

The Government is likely to adjourn this debate at some point to deal with the third reading of the Criminal Procedure Amendment Bill. Debate on this was last interrupted with seven speeches of ten minutes duration remaining. The bill, divided into nine bills, has the wide support of Parliament.

The Government is also likely to want to make progress on the committee stage of the Education Amendment Bill, which was interrupted last night while MPs debated clauses one, two and three of the bill. The Government has the support of ACT, United Future and the Maori Party over the controversial moves to set up charter schools which will run under different rules from state schools.
