Wellington.Scoop: Sudden Resignation Of Parliamentary Service Manager

The head of the Parliamentary Service, Geoff Thorn, has resigned following a growing controversy over the release of a DomPost journalist’s phone records to a ministerial inquiry into the leak of a spy agency report.

Radio New Zealand reports that the Speaker David Carter said he accepted the resignation with some regret, as during his tenure Mr Thorn had overseen a significant improvement to the operation of Parliamentary Service.

However, Mr Carter says both he and Mr Thorn acknowledge that the confidence in Parliamentary Service has been undermined by events in recent weeks, and as general manager Mr Thorn accepts responsibility for this. His last day will be on Friday. More>>
