House Rises Debating Family Court Reform

The House rose just before 10pm interrupting the committee stage debate on the Family Court Proceedings Reform Bill.

The Government is proposing sweeping changes to the administration of the Family Court and the processes the court follows with Justice Minister Judith Collins arguing reforms were needed because the current system was not working in anyone's interests and costing too much money.

Labour MP Andrew said the bill had started off as a well-intentioned reform, but he argued the bill was now about cutting costs at the expense of solving family disputes in a more timely way.

Earlier the Housing Accords and Special Housing Areas Bill completed its committee stage debate with National, Maori Party, ACT and United Future in favour
