MPs Pick Up The Pace
The Government raced through its business this afternoon make progress on three bills in three hours.
After Question Time, MPs returned to the interrupted third reading debate on the the Electoral Amendment Bill and this was passed by 65 to 55 with National, Maori Party, Mana, ACT and United Future.
The bill is mainly a “tidy up” of electoral law, though changes made in select committee stage which require a voter to affirm their identity beyond presenting an easy vote card meant it was opposed by Labour and others.
Following this MPs completed the second reading debates on the Victims' Orders Against Violent Offenders Bill and the Land Transport and Road User Charges Legislation Amendment Bill with both progressing on a voice vote
