World Cup Alcohol Bill Introduced

When Parliament sat today ACT MP David Seymour sought leave to introduce a bill to allow pubs to open during the Rugby World Cup.

Yesterday Mr Seymour sought the same thing, but this was blocked by the Greens. Today no one objected. The bill would allow pubs to open in the early hours of the morning when Rugby World Cup games are broadcast from Britain.

The alcohol bill will now be debated as the first Members Bill today and Parliament also agreed to a shortened process which would see the Bill passed by August 26.

Earlier a petition was presented asking the House to support action to phase out plastic bags.

The annual report of the Maori Trustee was presented and MPs began Question Time.
