Poll Shows Tight Race For Maori Seats

The weekend’s Marae Digipoll shows tight races in three of the five maori seats.

In the seat of Waiariki Labour’s Mita Ririnui is on 30 per cent with Cabinet Minister Tuariki Delamere on 27.1 per cent.

In Ikaroa Rawhiti Labour’s Parekura Horomia is on 36.6 per cent, just ahead of independent Derek Fox on 34 per cent.

In the Southern seat of Te Tai Tonga NZ First candidate Tutekawa Wyllie is on 35.2 per cent, only one point clear of Labour’s Mahara Okeroa.

With recent polling showing NZ First leader Winston Peters narrowly trailing National’s Katherine O’Regan in his Tauranga seat and his party slipping below the five per cent threshold, Wyllie’s performance in Te Tai Tonga could be crucial to the survival of NZ First.

The sample in these three seats was between 384 and 525 with margins of error between 4.3 and five per cent..

1338 Voters in these three seats were also asked how they would cast their party vote. Labour is well clear on 51.3 per cent with nearest rival NZ First well back on 17.8 per cent.

The poll of party support had a margin of error of 2.7 per cent.
