CHILD PROTECTION FUNDING: The Commissioner of Children says the Department of Children Youth and Family needs more resources to look after children The Mental Health Commission's Barbara Disley agrees.

PINOCHET: British Home Secretary Jack Straw has appeared before Parliament explaining his decision on General Pinochet. Mr Straw struck firmly to the prepared script. Some wanted to know why the medical examination had not been conducted earlier. Opponents of Pinochet were critical for a range of reasons.

LIAM WILLIAMS-HOLLOWAY: Liam Williams Holloway is expected to complete his chemotheraphy treaty in three weeks in Germany. He is then expected to return to alternative treatment.

NEW DRUG FANTASY: A new designer drug called Fantasy could be lethal warns Christchurch Hospital specialist. Several people have already overdosed on the drug.

AUTOPSIES: Australasian pathologists say autopsys do not have to be completed quickly defending criticism on delays occurring at Gisborne because of the lack of a pathologist.

MOVIE STATS: NZers spent a record $110 million going to the movies last year - up 8% on the previous year. The increase is being attributed to the popularity of multiplexes.
