ORGANISED CRIME: The Dominion leads today with a report that corruption and links with organised crime within government departments have been revealed by police.

NANDOR TANZSOS: The front-page picture shows a beaming Nandor Tanzsos who let his hair down for his maiden speech to Parliament yesterday.

- DROWNINGS: a report that two high school students drowned in the Waihao River, South Canterbury, yesterday one trying to save the other;

- HELICOPTER CRASH: a report that a helicopter pilot killed in Northland last night was due to get married next month;

- JURY TROUBLE: a report that Napier police promised yesterday to investigate an indiscretion where the wife of a police gang liason officer was on the jury at a gang trial for two days in spite of her husband telling senior police she would be there;

- IMMIGRATION BUST: a report that police and immigration officials have swooped on the building site for an upmarket Auckland apartment complex, removing 60 Asian workers;

- FRENCH ROWER: a report that not even the offer of a cooked meal and a shower from the captain of a fishing boat would have been enough to drag French rower Jo Le Guen away from his marathon solo row to South America, supporters said last night;

- HIJACK: a report that about 60 people from an Afghan airliner had sought asylum in Britain, the BBC reported last night after a hijack ended peacefully with only minor injuries to the 150 people on board.
