TVNZ: The broadcasting minister says new appointments are expected shortly for the TVNZ board. The SOE now faces the possibility of fresh legal action from TV3. Marion Hobbs says she is pleased that more than half the board are about to leave anyway.

TORNADOES: Tornadoes have killed at least 12 and injured more than 100 in the State of Georgia in the US. The Mayor of one town compared the devastation to the consequences of a nuclear bomb.

BOAT SINKS: A Portuguese cargo ship has sunk after crashing into an Italian ship in the Mediterranean. The crew are feared dead.

LISA BLAKIE: Police say they are making good progress in the hunt for the killer of Lisa Blakie. Police are following up a dozen sightings of a car Lisa is thought to have hitched a ride in. Police say it is possible that Blakie made it all the way to the West Coast before she died.

MATERNITY SNAFU: Wellington hospital says it regrets sending letters to women last year who it thought might give birth on New Years eve.

GLOBAL WARMING: The world’s top climate scientists are in Auckland and are more convinced than ever that climate change is underway. One scientist says he expects temperatures to rise by 2.5 degrees C.
