ACC COMPROMISE: Federated Farmers say changes to ACC being discussed between the Greens and the Labour Party will improve the proposed changes. The changes would allow self-employed to nominate their level of cover.

SNOWBOARDERS: A friend of the missing trio of kiwi snowboarders thought buried in an avalanche in Japan says the search was hampered by inadequate expertise.

AVALANCHES: Six people have died in separate avalanches in Italy and Switzerland.

WOMEN’S PRISON FOOD: About half the inmates at Christchurch Women’s Prison are on hunger strike because the prison plans to get male prisoners to make their food.

KOSOVO: NATO led peace keepers have fired teargas and used batons to stop Albanians from storming a bridge in Mitrovica.

ELECTION: The chair of a select committee which will investigate last year’s election organisation says the committee will be asking tough questions and will get answers.

AMERICAS CUP: Team NZ and Priada meet for the second time on the water today. Team NZ say they enjoy the big crowds waiting for them on the dock-side.

BALLOONIST: More than 100 people have gathered north of Auckland to watch Dick Smith trying to fly to Australia in a balloon.

ARCHITECT DIES: The Austrian architect Frederick Huntervasser – who made NZ his home - has died on board the QEII cruise liner of a heart attack.
