F16S: The Dominion leads today with a report that Prime Minister Helen Clark staved off a decision on the future of New Zealand’s air strike capability yesterday when scrapping the previous government’s contract for 28 F16s. This was against independent advice she had sought. The report is accompanied by pictures of the PM, an F16 and A4 Skyhawk and a trainer aircraft. An accompanying report says that the decision to buy F16 fighter jets was one for the New Zealand Government to make, a spokesman for Australian Defence Minister John Moore said yesterday.
