SHAREMARKET BOON: The Dominion leads today with a report that sharemarket confidence surged yesterday on news that Fletcher Paper’s New Zealand shareholders will get $700 million from a takeover bid by Norwegian company Norske Skog.

PIG’S RIGHTS: The front-page photo shows MP Sue Kedgley seated in a sow crate with two people with pig masks participating in a protest to outlaw the use of sow crates.

- POWER BILL DEATH: a report that a baby died in a candle lit fire at his rented home three days after the electricity was cut because of non-payment of power bills, a coroner’s court in Gisborne has been told;

- MOBILE PHONES: a report that hands free kits for mobile phones designed to protect the health of users, can actually increase levels of radiation to the brain, Britain’s Consumers Association has warned;

- HURRICANE BABIES: a report that babies could have a dramatic influence on the Hurricanes’ run to the Super 12 rugby semifinals, with wing Tana Umaga likely to miss the Hurricanes’ final two games in South Africa;
