SMOKE POLICE: The Dominion leads today with report that Health Minister Annette King is seeking to ban smoking in all pubs – a move that critics say could be enforced only with creation of a new squad of smoke police.

SCRAP METAL: The front page photo shows a pile of rusty wrecked cars – an accompanying report says that the cars are a boon for the scrap metal industry.

- SOLDIER MISSING: a report that a NZ soldier on observer duty for the UN in war-torn Sierra Leone had not been heard from for 48 hours the army said last night;
