WINZ: The Minister of Social Services says WINZ changes will take up to two years to show results. Mr Maharey says the changes are not aimed at Ms Rankin but at the culture in the department.

HEALTH STUDY: A major World Health Organisation study has ranked NZ 41st. The survey writer would have expected to rank NZ higher. The survey found France Italy, Singapore and Oman had the best health systems.

SCHOOL ARSON: CYFS has confirmed that a boy arrested for the arson of the Whangarei High School was supposed to be in their care.

CULLEN TO COAST: Minister of Finance Michael Cullen is making his first visit to the West Coast today with Jim Anderton. Last visit Cullen was pelted with eggs.

ISRAEL: Four members of the Israeli coalition government have resigned leaving PM Barak with a minority in the Parliament.

DEATH TRUCK: EU leaders shocked by the deaths of 58 illegal immigrants in a truck have vowed to do something to stop the trade.

STRIKE COMPLAINTS: The Employers and Manufacturers Association says an outbreak of industrial action in Auckland is sparked by unions flexing their muscles in advance of the Employment Relations Act.

CTU ON STRIKES: The CTU says that claims from the employers on this do not stand up. Waterfront workers will announce today when they plan to strike.

SOLOMONS: Rebel groups in the Solomon Islands held meetings last night on an Australian naval ship.

FIJI CRISIS: In Fiji the Military government has told the families of hostages that they believe a resolution to the hostage crisis is imminent.

TRAIN DEATH: One person is dead in Auckland following a collision with a train. The person was thought to be walking on the tracks with a bicycle.

NETBALL: Australian Netballers trashed the Silver ferms last night 53 to 30.
