DOVER HANGS ON: A two hour meeting between the PM and Maori Affairs Minister Dover Samuels last night has not yet led to his resignation. The Maori Caucus met last night too and reached a decision but will not say what it is.
SAMUELS – PREBBLE: ACT leader Richard Prebble says the PM is handling the affair badly. National’s Wyatt Creech says the PM has to come clean and say how she will deal with this.
WOOL BOARD: The Wool Board says it agrees with a report on restructuring its activities. The Wool Board chairman says the final decisions will be up to farmers.
ZIMBABWE: Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe is calling for national unity following elections in which he won a clear majority of 62 to 57. Mugabe will however be able to appoint another 30 members.
FIJI COUP: George Speight is refusing to give in to an army ultimatum that has asked the coup leaders to give up their coup by 6pm tonight.
SOLOMON ISLANDS: The Governor General has made an appeal for Members of Parliament to attend Parliament today and appoint a new Prime Minister. A quorum of 26 MPs is needed for a valid vote. The High Commissioner says the churches are also working hard to get MPs to the meeting.
UN ON AIDS: One in five adults is living with HIV in some African nations. In the West the disease is no longer out of control.
STUDENT LOANS: Student organisations are calling for an education campaign on the consequences of getting student loans to pay for their income.
GALES: Auckland’s roads have debris littered over them following gale force winds. Major delays are expected for commuters.
