Southland Teenagers Found Drowned – Grant Gillon (Jane Young Live) – Quit Smoking – Cancer Inquiry – Fiji Coup – Auckland Explosion – Prisoners Caught – Graham Rutherford Fraud – SA Penguins Sent Home

SOUTHLAND TEENAGERS FOUND DROWNED: Bodies have been found but questions remain over the deaths of three teenagers who drove into the Oreti River in Southland. The car was spotted on Sunday but not notified to police till today. The farmer who owned the land the road was on says he is not responsible. The road led straight into the river and it appears the three teenagers drove down it at night and into the river. The trio were keen rugby players.

GRANT GILLON: National and ACT have declared Grant Gillon a black sheep. They are refusing to work with him. Today in the house Gillon was unanimously censured by the house. NZ First’s Peter Brown today blocked an attempt by Gillon to apologise for a fourth time. Jenny Shipley says that bestiality is a serious criminal offence and her members should not be accused of it. Gillon says he will be disappointed if ACT and National block meetings of whips as they have threatened.

GRANT GILLON - JANE YOUNG LIVE: If these parties continue fighting over this it could disrupt Parliament. There was a deal done at lunch-time today that this would be put behind everybody if Gillon was contrite in Parliament. Even the Speaker had to admit that the censure would not be taken very seriously outside Parliament. The last MP’s to be censured were Nandor Tanczos and Rodney Hide.

AUCKLAND EXPLOSION: A gas based fire extingquisher system exploded today in Auckland’s Price-Waterhouse building.

PRISONERS CAUGHT: Several escaped prisoners charged with armed robbery were caught on the North Shore today.

GRAHAM RUTHERFORD: A former Citibank manager Graham Rutherford is accused by several of NZ richest businessmen of defrauding them to send money to Nigeria. Rutherford is being prosecuted by the Serious Fraud Office. The trial is expected to last a fortnight.

SA PENGUINS SWIM HOME: South African Penguins who have been trucked north from an oil slick on Robin Island have been set free for a 10 day swim home.
