RUSSIAN SUBMARINE: Rescue mission for Russian Submariners is called off following the discovery of water inside the submarine by Norwegian divers.

DOCTORS STRIKE: Northland Health says the government has refused a request for more money to deal with Junior Doctors pay demands. “We were told quite clearly that it was thought there was enough money in the pot”. The Doctors spokeswoman says they are disappointed that the Government

FISHERIES COMMISSION: Some big names are expected to be missing when the new line-up for the Maori Fisheries Commission is announced. Cabinet decided on a new line-up yesterday and government caucuses are discussing today. Sir Robert Mahuta and Sir Tipene O’Regan are not expected to be included.

NORTHERN IRELAND: Police have called in the army to combat an increasingly violent feud among protestant paramilitaries in Northern Ireland.

FIJI: Fijian authorities have described a death threat against the new Fijian President made by a member of the Great Council of Chiefs.

FLETCHER ENERGY: As petrol prices continue to rise there are concerns that a competitor – Fletcher Challenge petrol (part of Fletcher Energy) – may be sold leaving the main oil companies with no competitors.

WOOL BOARD: Farmers are calling on the Wool Board to get on with reforms endorsed by an overwhelming majority of sheep farmers. The next stage is an AGM in October.

TOURISM STATS: Tourism NZ says its global marketing strategy is a major reason for booming tourist numbers. However the industry says it can still grow a lot more.

WINNER: An unemployed British Man sleeping rough did not realise for six months that he had won an $840,000 jackpot in a lottery.
