JUNIOR DOCTORS STRIKE: Then Government has given tacit approval to a proposal to give junior doctors money to pay their student loans. 85 Drs in Wanganui and Palmerston North are going on strike today.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT NZ: Two of the top three figures in Local Government NZ are expected to quit in the next few weeks. Metrol Mayors want Louise Rosson and Phil Blake to resign.

SUBMARINE: The Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived at a northern Russian port to mourn 118 submariners killed in the sunken Russian submarine.

CHILDREN’S COMMISSIONER: The Social Services Minister Steve Maharey is rejecting claims that two Maori Ministers tried to gag the Children’s Commissioner.

TWA 800: American Air Safety investigators have ruled out criminal activity as a cause for the crash of flight TWA 800 in July 1996.

FISHERIES COMMISSION: With sweeping changes to the Fisheries Commission two Maori Leaders are advocating dialogue as a way through the difficulties the commission faces.

OLYMPIC TICKETS: The ticket agency for the Olympics in NZ says demand is growing for Olympic tickets.

TRI NATIONS RUGBY: Wallaby coach Rod McQueen has named an unchanged Wallaby team to play the Springboks in the final Tri-Nations test.
