MURDER: The CEO of the Hospitality Association says violence against his members is increasing. An Auckland liquor store owner was murdered yesterday.

MORE MURDER: Police are continuing investigations into two other homicides. In Christchurch a badly burnt body was found on Godly Head. In Taumaranui a middle aged woman has been found dead.

DOLLAR: The chief economist of the National Bank says that offshore factors have caused a dip in the value of the Kiwi overnight which is now trading at 42.9 cents. The National Bank’s business confidence survey shows business confidence continuing to recover.

PETROL PRICES: Three major oil companies are holding off following a petrol price rise unveiled by Caltex yesterday. Caltex raised prices by 4 cents yesterday. Petrol has gone up by 42 cents a litre since July last year.

DRUGS BILLIONAIRE: The Criminal Bar Association says that lifting of name suppression for an American Billionaire drug smuggler will make judges more careful about granting suppression.

EAST TIMOR: Australian armed forces have exchanged fire with militiamen on the East/West Timor border.

FISHERIES COMMISSION: Tribal and urban Maori authorities have told the new Maori Fisheries Commission they are ready to negotiate an end to disputes over asset allocation.

FIJI: The Great Council of Chiefs meets in Fiji today to set terms of reference for the establishment of a new constitution.
