JAKARTA: Fighting has broken out between pro and anti Suharto groups in Jakarta following a court ruling that the former President is too ill to stand trial for corruption.

CARTERTON DEATH CHARGES: Two women have been charged with manslaughter over a Carterton toddler. The child was beaten scolded and sexually violated before her death. A third person, male,31, will also be charged with failing to provide the necessities of life.

OLYMPICS - US DOPING: The US Olympics Committee has moved to distance itself from the athlete CJ Hunter saying he is not an Olympian. Hunter’s wife Marion Jones blitzed the field in the 200m sprint last night.

OLYMPICS - RADUCAN: The President of the Roumanian Olympic Committee says he will resign over the removal of a medal from Andrea Raducan.

OLYMPICS - WALKER: The last NZer in competition will begin this morning. 50km walker Craig Barrett is ranked 8th in the world and is rated an outside chance for a medal.

OLYMPICS - MEDAL TABLE: The US heads the medal table with 32 golds followed by China, Russia and Australia.

EURO REFERENDUM. Denmark’s referendum into adopting the Euro is expected to narrowly reject the common currency. The yes lobby has been forced to become more aggressive in recent weeks.

FERRY DISASTER: The captain and three crewmen from the Greek Ferry that sunk two days ago have been moved to a new island. At least 65 people were killed in the disaster.

RU-486: The US has approved the RU-486 abortion pill. The pill has been available in Europe for 12 years.

ACC PREMIUMS: The Employers Federation is questioning whether proposed reductions in ACC is sustainable.

GE INQUIRY: The Royal Commission on GE has come under fire for not advertising meetings sufficiently clearly. The Commissioners say that they have put as much money as possible into advertising.
