US ELECTIONS: With polls showing the numbers running neck and neck a few key states are considered the key to the US elections. Bush has been visiting Gore’s home state of Tennessee.

RALPH NADER: Ralph Nader has rejected last minute calls from the Democrats to withdraw from the race. Nader calls Gore and Bush the bad and the worse.

SECRET WITNESS: Police say that the Police Complaints Authority is investigating allegations a secret witness in the Scott Watson trial was pressured to give evidence.

NCEA POLL: Secondary School Teachers have concerns about the NCEA. Two thirds of teachers support the NCEA but an overall majority thinks there are insufficient resources.

SINGAPORE FTA: The new free trade agreement with Singapore is expected to pass its final hurdle in Parliament today with National and Labour supporting it through a house vote.

HUTT VALLEY HEALTH: A support group for Hutt Valley parents say that the hospital should have told them immediately they found they were using inappropriate equipment for testing children’s blood.

ISRAEL: The Israeli PM Ehud Barak has rejected calls from the Palestinians for an international protection force to be brought in to prevent blood shed on the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

FIJI MUTINY: Fiji’s former PM Sitiveni Rambuka has rejected allegations that he was one of the masterminds behind the coup last week. Rambuka says he thinks Commander Bainimarama will be a stronger leader as a result of tough decisions he has had to take.

RAT DISEASES: Authorities are keeping a close eye on research that shows that Derris dust produces the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease in rats.

SIAMESE TWINS: British doctors are operating in Manchester to separate Siamese twins. Doctors won the right to operate in the courts.

UK FLOODS: Torrential rain has led to more flooding across the UK. More flood warnings are being issued.
