Fiji Footage Fury – ACC Lump Sums – OECD Report – Date Rape – Greek Ferry Suicide – Child Murder UK – Elian Gonzalez – Playstation 2

FIJI FOOTAGE FURY: The Fiji High Commissioner is infuriated by TV3 footage showing Indigenous Fijians shooting outside a Secondary School. TV3 says the footage is not file footage and has never been screened before. The footage was filmed two weeks ago. The cameraman had to smuggle the footage out and it arrived in NZ yesterday. The camera operator is puzzled by the Fijian claims that nothing has happened in the area the footage was filmed for more than a month.

ACC LUMP SUMS: Lump sum ACC payments are to be brought back in. Payments of up to $100,000 can be made under legislation introduced today to Parliament. Under the new scheme the lump-sums will be paid in addition to earnings related compensation. The difference in payment between people made deaf and those made blind has angered the deaf. National says it is concerned about blow outs in expenditure. Michael Cullen says nonsense. The ACC bill is also big on injury prevention.

OECD REPORT: The government has rejected a suggestion from the OECD that people should be taxed if they own their own homes. Members of the public are not impressed with the suggestion. Nor are bankers. Buried within the OECD report is even more sobering news for home owners. The OECD says that if the economy improves then interest rates may have to rise by 0.5%. The Paris based thinktank also took a pot shot at government reforms which are described as unhelpful.

PLAYSTATION 2: Video game players have already almost purchased all the Playstation 2s on the market in NZ. Game players queue to buy the players. One person came to buy it here because it will be cheaper here than in Australia. Sony says it is better than the first Playstation.
