ABORTION PAPERS FOUND: The Privacy Commissioner and health officials are concerned that abortion forms from 1995 have been left in an unlocked room of an abandoned hospital in Auckland.
ISRAEL: The former Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has declared his interest in running for the PMship of Israel against Ehud Barak. Meanwhile the Palestinian President is concerned that Barak’s resignation may delay any peace talks.
US ELECTIONS: The two sides in the US Elections are preparing to take the fight to the US Supreme Court in Washington. America’s highest court has scheduled 90 minutes of argument in the case beginning at 5am tomorrow morning NZT.
LILY BING: A court appearance today for three people charged over the death of a Wairarapa toddler earlier this year. Lily Bing, the little girl who died, had been beaten and abused.
FIRE SERVICE LEVY: There will be other claims on funds raised from an increase in the Fire Service Levy other than wage rises for firemen say management. In particular the Fire Service has substantial debts.
SOCIAL WORKERS IN SCHOOLS: The Social Services Minister is considering expanding a social workers in schools programme that has been piloted this year. The programme has received lots of support from Principals.
GREEN PRAISE: The Coalition Government begins its second year in government today with the Greens complimenting the coalition on its stability. The Greens are also relaxed about the lack of a formal protocol.
SOLOMONS: The weapons handover process in the Solomon Islands has been disappointing say peace monitors. No more weapons have been handed over since 43 were handed over at the beginning of the process.
UK FLOODS: Britain is preparing for more flooding with 70 flood warnings in force. The latest storms have killed four so far.
