PRISON CUTS: Prison officers and women’s rights groups say that spending cuts at Christchurch Prisons will lead to an increase in prison violence.
ISRAEL: Israel’s ultra-orthodox Shas party has dealt a blow to Benjamin Netanyahu’s plans to run for the Prime Ministership of Israel.
GEORGE BUSH: In the US George Bush has met with Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan. Bush refused to discuss the specifics of his meeting with Mr Greenspan.
US ELECTIONS: 538 US Electoral College delegates will meet today to cast votes for the next President.
FIJI DRUG BUST: Fiji police have made a major seizure of drugs apparently being smuggled out of China.
DAVID DOUGHERTY: The Law Society says the David Dougherty case could set a precedent for other similar cases. Mr Dougherty’s case predates current compensation rules.
JAMIE BULGER: British government officials will neither confirm nor deny they are planning on moving the killers of Jamie Bulger to Australia or New Zealand.

FATTER: The nation is getting fitter but are still too
overweight. A survey has found some improvements in NZ death
rates.
