Jerusalem Bomb Explosion – Sir David Beattie – Rugby – Petrol Price Rise – Name Suppression – US Rescues (Snowbound in New Mexico) – Hero Festival begins
JERUSALEM BOMB EXPLOSION: A bomb exploded remarkably injuring only one person today in Jerusalem. The bombing was a said to be a message to Ariel Sharon by the bombers and went off without warning. Ultra orthodox Jews danced with the debris and Sharon said he would not negotiate till violence ceased.
SIR DAVID BEATTIE: Former Governor General Sir David Beattie had an official not a state funeral today in Wellington. The cortege wound slowly through the city. A 100 man guard from the services followed the casket. During the funeral service PM Helen Clark honoured Sir David. Sir David is survived by wife Norma and seven children. “Dad was fare warm and generous to a fault,” said one son. Sir David is also reputed to have had egg laying abilities he learned in Afghanistan.
RUGBY: The International Rugby 7s kicked off today. John Minto says protestors will come tomorrow. An advocacy group is calling on fans to turn their backs whenever the Fijian’s play. John Minto says there are no plans to invade the pitch. Protestors are angry the Government did not ban the Fijians.
PETROL PRICE RISE: Petrol price rises begin again at BP from Sunday night of 5 cents a litre.
NAME SUPPRESSION: A man has been charged in relation to the Picton brush fire that burned 90 hectares. The arrested man is a young beneficiary with name suppression.
US RESCUES: A woman has been rescued from snow in New Mexico. A sky rescue is conducted on the outside of a skyscraper.
HERO BEGINS: Hero festival begins tonight in Auckland. The Hero Gala concert kicks off the two week festival tonight. The festival’s opening ceremony promises to be a bit like an Olympics Games opening ceremony only smaller. Ending with the release of doves. The parade will be back this year with a huge Barbie doll. Hero is becoming mainstream says an industry insider. Followed by - dancing girl footage with TV3 logos on their backs.
