DAIRY MEGA-MERGER: A group of farmers opposed to the Dairy Mega-Merger proposal says it will create an inefficient monopoly. Farmers vote today on the proposal to merge the industry today.

TASMAN PACIFIC DIRECTORS CHARGED: The Engineers Union says the decision to prosecute seven directors of Tasman Pacific Airways is a welcome sign of a new tougher approach to company law.

FATAL NORTHLAND FIRE: The Fire Service says a naked flame used for lighting or heating may have been the cause of a fatal house fire in Northland, in a house with no electricity.

ELECTRICITY: The biggest electricity retailer, On Energy, says a small fall in the price of wholesale electricity is not enough to make them reconsider retail price rises.

VLADIMIR PUTIN: The Russian President Vladimir Putin is returning home after a two day trip to Yugoslavia. President Putin briefly visited Kosovo and said that more effort should be made to disarm Albanian troops.

ISRAEL: Israeli troops have shot dead a 12-year-old boy in the occupied territories. The boy is the fourth Palestinian to die since the truce between Israel and Palestine began. Tensions are emerging inside the Israeli cabinet over the truce.

MISTAKEN IDENTITY MURDER: The possibility of mistaken identity is being investigated in the murder inquiry searching for the killer of Tauranga man Noel Mackenzie. A man of the same name was involved in a child abuse case.

BORDER FINES: Instant $200 border fines come into force today for unauthorised food imports at the border.

KEITH MURDOCH: Police in Australia’s Northern Territory are still looking for former All Black Keith Murdoch. Murdoch is wanted by police to participate in the coroner’s inquest for a dead burglar.
