SIA AIR NZ OFFER: The Acting Chairman of Air New Zealand says that Singapore Airlines’ proposal to buy into Air New Zealand is better for the company.

PADDINGTON TRAIN CRASH: The father of a NZer killed in the Paddington Train Crash says the results of an inquiry come as no surprise. However he remains concerned that the problems have not been fixed.

ENZA: A group representing orchardists says that ENZA is overstating the residual levels of debt in the industry. The Chairman of Pipfruit Growers NZ says that ENZA’s debt claims are difficult to understand given that they were reported to them as $10.7 million.

TIM BARNETT: Labour MP Tim Barnett is defending his involvement in a lobby group that has led to allegations of politicking by an SOE, Meridian Energy.

ALLIANCE STOUSH: Divisions within the Alliance have deepened following revelations from Jim Anderton concerning an Alliance Council meeting at which Anderton put his leadership on the line.

MEAT WORKERS HEALTH STUDY: A major study into the health of redundant Hawke’s Bay meat workers has found they had twice the suicide rate of workers at a nearby meat processing plant.

US EXECUTION: The US Government has carried out its second execution within eight days. Juan Raoul Garza suffered the same fate as Timothy McVeigh. His supporters claim he was a victim of a racially biased sentencing system. About 50 people

AUCKLAND PORT STRIKE: The Ports of Auckland and the Waterfront Union will sit down with a mediator this afternoon in last ditch effort to avoid 24-hour-strike.

BIRD RECOVERY CENTRE: Donations have been pouring in from around the country for Whangarei’s financially troubled bird recovery centre. Enough money has come in to pay all the bills and provide ongoing funding.
