KEVIN POLWART RECAPTURED: After six weeks on the run Kevin Polwart is back behind bars. Prison escaper Kevin Polwart was happy to speak to media on his way back into court. He was bruised and limping. Police say Polwart was carrying two loaded firearms when he was re-captured. However he wasn’t pointing them at police. He thanked his family and friends. A couple of elderly people have been charged with harbouring an escaper. Polwart has been on the run for 41 days. He says he had a good holiday. Police believe he has been using a van and want information on its movements since June 7th.

LUNDY MURDERS: A Palmerston North court today heard that Mark Lundy drank rum and slept with a prostitute within hours of his family’s murder. A detective read a statement Mark Lundy gave to her after the killings. Lundy said he was visiting clients in Wellington on the day of the murder. Lundy called for an Escort at around 11pm. Lundy also outlined his commercial situation to the police constable. Lundy said he was hopeless with money and that his wife dealt with finances. Lundy also spoke of hefty costs to set up a vineyard business. This afternoon two police officers’ evidence was suppressed. How Lundy behaved when he was told of the deaths and arrested was also described. The final witness is expected to be the police in charge of the investigation who

FIJI THEFT: In Fiji three police officers have been charged with stealing property from the house of the murdered head of Red Cross, John Scott. The police were supposed to be guarding the property.

CRUISE IN FIJI: Tom Cruise is reported to be holidaying with a friend at the same resort visited recently by Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe.

CONCORDE FLIES AGAIN: The Concorde has flown again, with new fuel tanks designed to prevent a repeat of the Paris crash. The modifications to the plane include Kevlar lining to fuel tanks and tougher tyres. Indications are that passengers will fly the Concorde again.

RAISING THE KURSK: The biggest and most risky salvage operation ever is underway in the sea north of Russia. A flotilla of boats has gathered at the site of the sinking of the Kursk submarine.

JAPANESE WHALING BLUNDER: The head of the Japanese Fishing Authority has described whales as cockroaches of the ocean, and has admitted to bribing Carribean nations to oppose a new whale sanctuary.

WAITANGI INVITATION: The Governor General is being wooed back to Waitangi by representatives of the Waitangi Marae. Dame Sylvia Cartwright was showered with gifts and formally asked to return to Waitangi for Waitangi Day celebrations. Last year the government boycotted Waitangi. The New Governor General is coy about returning to Waitangi at present. The PM would not comment on the development today.

MISSING THE SUN: Central Otago residents are missing the sun. They have seen only two hours of sunshine in two weeks. Alexandra residents have had a hoar frost for two weeks. A local promotions person is suggesting putting prozac in the water supply to cheer people up. Kids seem to be enjoying it though.
