CLIMATE AGREEMENT: After 24 hours of negotiations in Bonn 185 ministers have clinched an agreement that may allow the 1997 Kyoto Protocol to come into force. NZ’s representative Pete Hodgson says it is a significant breakthrough. “This has been a very very difficult global negotiation.”

INDONESIA: The NZ Ambassador in Jakarta says the change of President will mean little to the relationship with NZ. Michael Green said that there is goodwill between Indonesia and New Zealand.

INDONESIA: The PM says there is concern that the new President of Indonesia is very nationalistic, and wonders how that will affect Indonesia’s relationship with East Timor.

HONDURAS ATTACK: The sister of a Kiwi woman attacked in Honduras says the family want the attackers brought to justice. She wants to know how the investigation is going, but it is very hard to get any information.

MEDICAL MISADVENTURE: The Medical Council says a new information sharing relationship with ACC is designed to protect patients. If a doctor is involved in more than one incident in a year, or five in five years, then further action will be taken.

POLICE INDEPENDENCE: There are concerns that the independence of the police may be undermined by changes to the Police Act being considered by government. Documents released under the OIA shows that detailed work is being done on the proposals by officials.
