IRD Commissioner Called to Account - The Commissioner for Inland Revenue will be asked why to explain why the IRD shelled out more than $2 million to a consultancy firm. ACT MP Rodney Hide says KPMG was paid $2.4 million for advice over the past year. IRD says hiring professional advice is the most cost-effective way to complete the project. Mr Hide will be “holding the Inland Revenue Department to account for this spending”.
Bizarre Twist - A new and bizarre twist in the hunt for an arsonist who set fire to Tauranga’s historic Holy Trinity Church. The 124 year old wooden church was gutted by the blaze early on July 1st. Police say the vicar has been sent a copy of the New Testament with hand written satanic references inside. Police are using forensic science to examine the source of the package.
Truckies Wary of Oil Price Rises - The
country’s truckies say they cannot afford the country’s
latest diesel and petrol price rise. Oil companies are
warning that this week’s 3 cents a litre rise in petrol and
diesel will soon be followed by another rise. The Road
Transport Forum says it is hard to say what affect the rise
will have on freight costs but will probably add about 1
percent to overall operating costs. It says the rises are
difficult for companies to absorb.
