INDIAN TRAIN SMASH: Rescue operations at the scene of one of India's worst train smashes have been scaled down as night falls. Officials have had to curtail rescue operations because of poor light. Death toll already 270 but expected to rise. The previous record toll in a train accident was 800 when and Indian train fell off a bridge.

MAGIC MUSSELS: A Ministry of Health investigation is underway into the release of information on Lyprinol which could lead to prosecution under the Medicines Act.

ELECTRICITY REGULATION: The government's power price control legislation appears to be in tatters after losing the support of New Zealand First. Max Bradford has decided not to bring the legislation back to Parliament. Helen Clark says the government has blundered.

WINZ: The State Services Commission is expected to release the results of an inquiry into WINZ CEO Christine Rankin's conduct in relation to the charter plane row.
