1. CANCER SCARE - There are Calls for an investigation into all the work of a Gisborne doctor following his failure to spot abnormalities in cervical smears. He also carried out other types of tests to detect other types of cancers. As the Ministerial inquiry gets under way there have been calls for compensation for the women affected. The Ministry of Health is working its way through all the cases.

2. EAST TIMOR - There has been renewed violence in East Timor - a journalist was killed hours after his arrival. The UN peacekeepers say the militia are becoming more active and fear they will not give up without a fight. Reporter says they have not been moving out of the secure area much, but there are more people coming out into the streets after it was deserted. Looters emptied a government warehouse in Dili, reporter says the people are desperate and hungry. Dili is "hell on earth". UN troops have entered towns in the hill areas to a hero's welcome, plans are now being made to get aid to the areas.
