KIWI KILLED IN TRAIN CRASH: Ministry of Foreign affairs has confirmed that a NZer in his 20s has been killed in the London train crash. Another is injured.

HEALTH AND DISABILITY COMMISSIONER: A decision on who will replace the Health and Disability commissioner will be left till after the election. A final shortlist will be presented after the election says the Ministry of Health.

TB OUTBREAK: 12 Whangarei people are being treated for TB following an outbreak. All caught from one family member. The incidence in Northland is the largest in decades.

STUDENT LOANS: National MP Shane Ardern told Parliament this morning that charging interest during the studying period is “a little over the top” – Labour’s Trevor Mallard says the scheme is a “noose” – Belinda Vernon says it is “fair”.

CANTERBURY UNI: President Elect of Canterbury University Students Association says he is hopeful the occupation of the university’s registry will end this afternoon.

DRINKING BEER: Drinking beer moderately is good for lowering the risk of heart disease – Australian studies find.
