4. Situation in West Timor deteriorating: UNHCR (9/11/99) DILI, East Timor,(AFP) - A fresh flurry of militia incidents, including one attempt to detonate a hand grenade, has caused the plight of refugees in Indonesian West Timor to deteriorate, a UNHCR spokesperson said Sunday.

5. No money for E.Timor transition, says IMF (9/11/99) By Paul Tait DARWIN, Australia, (Reuters) - The International Monetary Fund will not give money to East Timor during the United Nations transitional administration of the battered territory, a regional IMF official said on Sunday.

Militias make way for equally dangerous life (9/11/99) Irish Times The atmosphere in Dili has become so relaxed these days that some journalists and soldiers from the International Force in East Timor (Interfet) decided to go for a swim on White Sands beach just outside town, and discovered that there are forms of life just as dangerous as the armed militiaman, which for now seems to be an extinct species.
