Coalition Leaders On Greens – Greens – Tauranga – Rangitikei – Middle East – Treaty Settlement – East Timor

COALITION LEADERS ON GREENS: PM Elect Helen Clark says the government will do its best to work with the Greens. “Clearly the new government is going to work very closely with the Greens.” Deputy PM Jim Anderton is also promising to work with the Greens.

GREENS: Jeanette Fitzsimons says the Greens will not vote for legislation they do not support – and they do not support the party-hopping legislation.

TAURANGA: The final result for Tauranga should be known later today. Around 3000 special votes have been cast in the election. If NZ First loses the seat on specials it will have no MPs.

RANGITIKEI: The Chief Electoral Officer says he will get legal advice before declaring a result in Rangitikei.

MIDDLE EAST: Madeleine Albright is in Syria trying to resolve Israel/Syrian talks. Syria says that Israel promised to give back the Golan Heights.

TREATY SETTLEMENT: A bid to overturn a treaty settlement for Te Atiawa will get underway today. The Puketapu Hapu want the settlement stopped. Two of Labour’s new MPs have asked the PM-Elect to review the agreement.

EAST TIMOR: New Zealand’s commander in East Timor says the morale if NZ troops is “fine”. Brigadier Martyn Dunn says it has been an arduous mission.
