Opposition demands full details

Opposition Leader Jenny Shipley has challenged the Prime Minister to come clean about why she has struck such an odd back-door deal with Mr Doone.

“Helen Clark has just gone on the record on National Radio saying his actions were “inappropriate” and “undesirable,” so why has she kept him on the police payroll at his full salary and found work for him in her own department?

“As I have said, I fully support his departure from the post as Police Commissioner, but the public has a right to know the full facts.

“This looks like a golden handshake under the table, a deal in disguise.

“The public have a right to know why after what Ms Clark has described as ‘a significant error of judgement’ Mr Doone should effectively receive an extra seven months full salary.

“The public also deserve to know precisely what he is receiving in terms of salary and superannuation entitlements and how these differ from what he would have received if he had been summarily dismissed,” Mrs Shipley said
