doesn’t stand behind its advertising
The Public Trust’s “Your word is law” campaign is “just advertising” and “puffery” according to the Public Trustee when he appeared before the Finance and Expenditure Committee today.
The Public Trustee, David Hutton conceded to National MP, Annabel Young that the branding and advertising campaign costing nearly $1 million was just “puffery.” He was responding to Ms Young’s questions on sections 3 and 4 of the Family Protection Act which limits the rights to bequeath assets to non family members.
Sections 3 and 4 were described as “notorious” by Ms Young. “These are the sections that make it difficult for people to leave their assets to de facto partners because family members may use the Family Protection Act to overturn their final will," said Ms Young.
“The Public Trust’s advertisements are creating an impression that the words of your final will cannot be overturned. This is clearly wrong” she said.
